3AW 693 Melbourne, VIC, Australia Talk AM 693

Out of 140 entries in Australia, this one ranks 24. The upper quarter of a national list is an interesting place to be: well known enough to have accumulated opens, not so well known that it is the station everybody already had.

News is one of Australia's headline genres in this directory, and 3AW 693 Melbourne, VIC, Australia Talk AM 693 is one of 7 stations there leading with it. The country hub prints the same tag near the top of its own list, so this station sits inside the country's main sound rather than off to one side.

At 48 kbps this is one of the lowest rate streams on Australia's dial, whose median is 128 kbps. It will hold a connection almost anywhere, which is the tradeoff being made.

The stream address on this entry points at playerservices.streamtheworld.com, which is where 11 other stations in Australia are served from as well. Platforms of that size carry the long tail of a country's dial, and they are the reason a listing can look broken when it is one host having a quiet hour.

The broadcaster publishes at 3aw.com.au, on Australia's own country domain. A national domain is a small piece of evidence that the station is what the directory says it is, since these are the harder ones to register from somewhere else.
