101.9 ROCK

Out of 259 entries in Canada, this one ranks 48. The upper quarter of a national list is an interesting place to be: well known enough to have accumulated opens, not so well known that it is the station everybody already had.

Rock is the station's own leading tag and no other entry in Canada uses it that way. Worth reading as self-description: the directory takes tags as broadcasters type them and does not reconcile them.

Worldwide it ranks 25 among 148 rock entries, which is worth roughly as much as the count behind it and no more.

At 198 kbps, 101.9 ROCK streams at more than double Canada's median of 96 kbps. That is a deliberate choice by whoever runs it: bandwidth is the recurring cost of an internet station, and a rate this far above the local norm is money spent on sounding better than the dial around it.

Encoded as AAC, one of the three formats Canada's stations use. The country page breaks all of them out with counts.

13 of Canada's entries are served from rogers-hls.leanstream.co, this one among them. A shared host means a shared fate. If this stream is silent, the fastest check is not this station's own site but whether its neighbours on the same platform are playing.
