ICI Musique - Montréal

The country's dial has two sizeable languages on it and this station is on the smaller one. 94 entries in Canada broadcast in French, against a listing whose commonest language is English.

The French shelf on this site collects every station in the language regardless of where it transmits from, and the directory's French entries are concentrated in France, Belgium and Switzerland. Reading the shelf next to this page is the quickest way to see how far the language's dial actually reaches.

The gap here is large: 48 kbps where Canada's stations typically run 96. Rates at this level were designed for dial-up and for mobile data that was billed by the megabyte, and plenty of stations simply never changed the setting.

This one is HLS, a segmented format rather than a single continuous stream. It is worth knowing because the failure is specific and fixable rather than a dead station: the address works, the browser just cannot open that shape of address unaided.

The stream address on this entry points at rcavliveaudio.akamaized.net, which is where 10 other stations in Canada are served from as well. Platforms of that size carry the long tail of a country's dial, and they are the reason a listing can look broken when it is one host having a quiet hour.
