Getarum Radio

Getarum Radio is at 119 in a listing of 216. Read the rank as a rough position rather than a standing: the click counts in the middle of a long national list are close enough together that a handful of opens moves a station several places.

Broadcasting in English from Romania, alongside 58 other stations there doing the same. Romanian is the country's commonest broadcast language in this directory, so this is the second shelf of a bilingual listing.

The shelf for the language holds 5,984 stations, led by United States. A station like this one broadcasting from Romania is what stops that shelf from being a second copy of one country's hub.

The gap here is large: 64 kbps where Romania's stations typically run 128. Rates at this level were designed for dial-up and for mobile data that was billed by the megabyte, and plenty of stations simply never changed the setting.

The format here is AAC, against a listing for Romania overwhelmingly made of MP3. Both play in a browser; the difference shows up in how much quality survives at a given bitrate, where AAC has the advantage at lower rates.

Its audio comes from stream.clever-host.ro. One other station in Romania streams from the same host, which is a smaller sharing than the big platforms and often means the same people run them all.
