Вести FM

One word in the name is ordinary Russian rather than branding: Вести is news. Worth a line for anyone reading a list of stations in a language they do not have.

Вести FM ranks 93 among 471 stations in Russia. High enough that the country hub carries it in its own tables, and far enough from the head that the neighbours below are a genuinely different set of stations from the famous ones.

Russian is the station's language and the country's commonest, one of six Russia's listing records.

The stream is encoded at 320 kbps, more than twice the 128 kbps median for Russia. Bitrate is the one quality figure the public directory carries, and on this entry it is unambiguous.

The stream address on this entry points at icecast-vgtrk.cdnvideo.ru, which is where 10 other stations in Russia are served from as well. Platforms of that size carry the long tail of a country's dial, and they are the reason a listing can look broken when it is one host having a quiet hour.

Вести FM keeps its own site at smotrim.ru. The address sits under Russia's country code, which lines up with where the directory says the station broadcasts from.
