Canale Italia

Canale Italia sits in the tail of Italy's 400 entries. The tail is the part of a directory that goes missing first, and it is the part worth keeping: the head of every country's list is the same handful of national broadcasters, and everything that makes a dial local is behind them.

With one recorded open, Canale Italia sits in the part of the directory where the numbers stop discriminating. The station's position in Italy's list should be read as approximate for exactly that reason.

Canale Italia reports no bitrate to the directory. Rather than print a zero or invent an average, the page says nothing, which is the same policy every empty field on this site gets.

The format here is AAC, against a listing for Italy overwhelmingly made of MP3. Both play in a browser; the difference shows up in how much quality survives at a given bitrate, where AAC has the advantage at lower rates.

The stream is served from rci.canaleitalia.tv:8005, which no other entry in Italy uses in this snapshot. Nothing else in the listing shares its fate: if this address stops answering it is this broadcaster's own outage, and if it plays, it plays.

Their site is canaleitalia.it, a domain registered in Italy. Where a station's own address and its listed country agree, the entry is a little more trustworthy than one where they do not.
