EHR

In Latvia's ordering this is number 16 of 28, which is the middle of the list. The stations either side of it are a better guide to what the country sounds like than the head of the list is, because the head is the same few famous streams in every country.

The open count against EHR is one, which is enough to know the stream has been played through the directory and not enough to compare it with anything. Small counts are the normal case out here, and a ranking built from them separates stations by luck as much as by interest.

EHR streams at 96 kbps, under Latvia's median of 128 kbps. A lower rate is not automatically worse: speech carries perfectly well below the music threshold, and a station built for phones on a weak connection has a good reason to encode this way.

The stream is served from stream.ehrhiti.lv:8000, an address three other entries in Latvia use as well. A small shared host is usually a group of stations under one owner or one technical provider rather than a platform.

The station's own site is ehr.fm. The .fm domain has nothing to do with FM radio or with where a station is: it belongs to the Federated States of Micronesia and has been sold to broadcasters worldwide for years, so read it as branding rather than as a location.
