SomaFM CliqHop IDM (128k AAC)

SomaFM CliqHop IDM (128k AAC) sits in the tail of the United States' 1,481 entries. The tail is the part of a directory that goes missing first, and it is the part worth keeping: the head of every country's list is the same handful of national broadcasters, and everything that makes a dial local is behind them.

With one recorded open, SomaFM CliqHop IDM (128k AAC) sits in the part of the directory where the numbers stop discriminating. The station's position in the United States' list should be read as approximate for exactly that reason.

Three stations in the United States lead with the tag idm, and SomaFM CliqHop IDM (128k AAC) is one of them. That is a small enough group to hear end to end, and the tags are the broadcasters' own words rather than a classification imposed here.

The audio comes from ice6.somafm.com, and 36 other stations in the United States are served from the same address. That is a streaming platform carrying many broadcasters rather than a station running its own server, which is worth knowing for a practical reason: when a platform has a bad night, a whole block of the United States' listing stops answering at once and nothing is wrong with any of the stations in it.
