SomaFM Covers (128k MP3)

SomaFM Covers (128k MP3) ranks 338 among 1,481 stations in the United States. High enough that the country hub carries it in its own tables, and far enough from the head that the neighbours below are a genuinely different set of stations from the famous ones.

English is the station's language and the country's commonest, one of six the United States' listing records.

Among 1,481 stations in the United States here, this is the only one that puts covers first. The covers rail below therefore leaves the country entirely, which is the more interesting direction to travel from a page like this.

SomaFM Covers (128k MP3) streams at 128 kbps, which is exactly where the United States' dial sits: the country's median is 128 kbps. Being unremarkable on this axis is the normal case and it is fine. 49% of the country's stations reach 128 kbps or better.

The audio comes from ice5.somafm.com, and 31 other stations in the United States are served from the same address. That is a streaming platform carrying many broadcasters rather than a station running its own server, which is worth knowing for a practical reason: when a platform has a bad night, a whole block of the United States' listing stops answering at once and nothing is wrong with any of the stations in it.
