SomaFM Groove Salad (16k AAC)

The directory lists three streams in the United States under this name, told apart by a number alone. This page is number sixteen. Nothing here is taken from the other two.

In the United States' ordering this is number 579 of 1,481, which is the middle of the list. The stations either side of it are a better guide to what the country sounds like than the head of the list is, because the head is the same few famous streams in every country.

Three recorded opens in the public directory. That is a trace rather than a measurement, and it is the reason this page describes where the station sits rather than how popular it is.

SomaFM Groove Salad (16k AAC) streams at 16 kbps against the United States' median of 128, which is less than half the local norm. On a dial where 49% of stations reach 128 kbps, a rate this low stands out, and it usually means either a speech station that never needed more or an encoder that has not been touched in years.

36 of the United States' entries are served from ice2.somafm.com, this one among them. A shared host means a shared fate. If this stream is silent, the fastest check is not this station's own site but whether its neighbours on the same platform are playing.
